Skullcap (Scutellaria spp.)

Skullcap (genus Scutellaria), a herb native to North America, has been cherished for centuries in Native American traditions and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It's primarily known for its calming properties and its ability to support the nervous system. Beyond its physical benefits, skullcap is highly regarded for its metaphysical properties, associated with peace, relaxation, and protection in spiritual practices.

  • Antioxidant Benefits: It contains powerful antioxidants that protect against oxidative stress and free radicals.
  • Nerve Support: Beyond calming, skullcap is thought to work with GABA receptor sites to actively soothe the nervous system.
  • Neurodegenerative Diseases: Some preliminary research suggests skullcap might have neuroprotective qualities, being helpful in treating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
