Chicory Root (Cichorium intybus)
Chicory Root is a hardy perennial herb deeply rooted in both culinary tradition and folk wisdom. A larger cousin of the dandelion, it has been cultivated since ancient times—especially along the Nile in Egypt—and was introduced to America in the 18th century. When roasted, chicory root yields a bold, earthy beverage remarkably similar to coffee, but completely caffeine-free. It’s perfect as a satisfying coffee substitute or as an addition to coffee blends to enhance depth, smoothness, and roasted flavor.
In metaphysical and folk practices, chicory root is associated with strength, independence, and protection. Often used in mojo bags, incense, or charms, it has traditionally been employed to remove obstacles, ward off negativity, and promote personal power and resilience.

Caffeine-Free Brew (Hot):
- Use 1 tablespoon of roasted chicory root per 8 oz of water.

- Strain and serve. Add sweetener or milk if desired.
Cold Brew Chicory:
- Combine 1–2 tablespoons of roasted chicory root with 8 oz of cold water.
- Let steep in the refrigerator for 12–24 hours.
- Strain and serve over ice. Optional: mix with cold brew coffee for a smooth, low-caffeine blend.
